Canada-China Call for Proposals for R&D Collaborations

Under the Canada-China Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreement, Canadian and Chinese governments have agreed to foster joint research and development projects.

ISTP Canada and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of China have announced the 2008 Canada-China Call for Proposals for R&D Collaborations.

This call is open to all projects that include science and technology (S&T) development leading to commercial success and benefit to both countries. There is, however, an initial specific emphasis on the following technology areas:

  • Agriculture foods and bio-products
  • Energy
  • Environment
  • Health and life sciences/biotechnology

Information and communication technologies and nanotechnology are identified as enabling sectors to the four selected areas.

Key Requirements

  • The proposed R&D project must include participants from Canada and China.
  • At least one industry participant from Canada.
  • The project should be innovative and lead to a new product or process with clear commercial potential.
  • The partners should agree in advance on the IP rights and on the commercialization strategy of the product or service.
  • The application will be strengthened by the participation of academic and institutional researchers and by including young researcher exchanges as a component of the R&D program.

Funding

Up to $600,000 Canadian per project, or 50% of the eligible costs of Canadian Applicants; Chinese participants will receive funding at a level determined by MOST.

AUTO21 Call For Proposals

AUTO21 announced a Call for Letters of Intent for automotive-focused research projects to be conducted over 24 months, commencing Apr. 1, 2009.

Applicants whose letters of intent are successful will be invited to submit a full proposal that details their research projects.

Call for Letters of Intent documents are available for download on AUTO21's website. The process requires a brief Letter of Intent that must be submitted by Sept. 19, 2008, which identifies the Project Leader who is responsible for coordinating and reporting on the work of a research team, the other members of the research team, the major industrial or other external supporting partners, and the basic aim of the proposed research project, along with a proposed budget.  

All Letters of Intent will be reviewed by AUTO21. The research teams who will be invited to prepare a full proposal will be contacted by Oct. 27, 2008, which will allow the teams to prepare a proposal due Nov. 17, 2008.
