On the Move...For the Better
As our Faculty expands, our spacing needs evolve. A number of Engineering offices and facilities have either moved or are being renovated to meet our growing space needs.
Student Club Space at 245 College St.
Earlier this year, the University purchased 245 College Street as a future development site. The Faculty requested and received permission to use the building for temporary student clubs and workshop space while long term plans for the site are developed. Lockable storage rooms and shared workshop space has been made available to Engineering students through the Engineering Society.

Engineering Career Centre (ECC) and the Professional Experience Year (PEY)
The growth of ECC and PEY programs has created the need for expansion, and the Faculty has obtained the 5th floor of 256 McCaul Street, which, will be ready for occupancy in Fall 2009, following extensive renovations. In the interim, ECC and PEY have relocated to the 2nd floor of New College, 45 Willcocks Street, where residence rooms have been temporarily converted to office space.

New space tip: There are two New College buildings on Willcocks. ECC and PEY are in the building on the south side of the street, beside the Faculty Club.

Engineering Communication Program (ECP)
Another program in need of additional space, ECP will add SF3213 to its other rooms (SFB670 and EA201), for use by instructors, on loan from Computer Science for one year. It is anticipated that ECP will be consolidated into one new location for the start of the 2009 academic year.

New space tip: For some mid-fall sun and exercise, take the north-east stairs in GB to the third floor, then turn right into SF.
Engineering Computer Facility (ECF) Computer Labs and Remote Access
ECF computer labs currently running in BA1120, 2124, and 2128 will be relocated during the winter holiday break to GB144 and 150, to consolidate ECF operations and to help facilitate plans for a new Decanal Suite in the Bahen Centre, which is currently in the design stage. The Student Experience Fund is providing support to provide remote access to ECF software so that students can connect to ECF from any internet site, from their home, residence, dorm, or from a wireless laptop connection.

The Edward S. Rogers Sr. Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Common Room BA 1000
The ECE Common Room, currently in BA1000, will be relocated during the winter holiday break to BA1120 (currently an ECF computer lab) to help facilitate the new Decanal Suite project.

Engineering and Computer Science Library Upgrades
The Student Experience Fund is also providing support to upgrade and expand study space in the SF Library. New furniture, carpeting, and data connections are in the process of being installed to improve the environment for students.

New space tip:
When you go to the library to take a look at the new furniture, or to take out a book on fluid dynamics, be sure to check out the Alumni Hall of Distinction that flanks the library doors.
