Faculty Energy Research Event
By Carolyn Farrell
On Thursday, June 19, the Faculty held its inaugural Energy Research Showcase in the Bahen Centre for Information Technology.
This event was an opportunity for faculty and students doing energy-related research to meet with representatives from government and industry to share information on research advances and foster cooperation and collaboration.
Approximately 170 people attended the event, which featured presentations from faculty members on issues ranging from our undergraduate options in energy to biofuels to Engineering of nuclear power facilities as well as
a panel discussion led by Professor Doug Reeve
on the challenges facing alternative energy.
Many of our students also participated, with 32 poster presentations from graduate students as well a presentation from the Blue Sky Solar Car team.
Vice-Dean, Research, Stewart Aitchison plans to build on the success of this first event with more such events in the future -- not just on energy research, but on other priority areas such as nanotechnology, IT and bioengineering. |
