New Faces in the Faculty

Please welcome some of the newest members of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, in addition to members who have taken on new roles within the Faculty. New Administrative Staff


Pauline MartiniPauline Martini
Graduate Administrator, Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry

Before assuming the role of Graduate Administrator in July 2007 in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, Pauline worked in a similar role in the Department of Civil Engineering. Currently, she works in “everything graduate.” Pauline’s responsibilities include admissions, development of communications tools, student advising, graduation and much more. Prior to working in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, Pauline worked for the Faculty of Nursing.


Alice McQuarrie
Receptionist/Operations Assistant, Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

Alice assumed the position of Receptionist/Operations Assistant in September 2007. She is responsible for answering the telephones and visitor inquiries, assisting students, distributing mail, distributing the weekly department newsletter and much more. Prior to joining the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Alice worked as a backup general duty receptionist in the Anatomy and Cell Biology Department at The University of Western Ontario. 


ZahraZahra Mirzaei
Research Technician, Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

Zahra Mirzaei assumed the position of Research Technician for the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in August 2007. Zahra’s primary role is to perform assays and biological experiments related to the lab’s research in the areas of heart valve disease and cell mechanics. Additionally, she trains students in the lab and assists them with their research. She is also responsible for general management of the lab to ensure that it operates smoothly. Prior to assuming her new role, Zahra worked as a research engineer in the Affymetrix core facility at the Karolinkska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, where she was also a PhD candidate. Zahra moved to Canada three years ago and worked as a Research Technician in Dr. Kelvin’s lab, Division of Experimental Therapeutics at UHN.


Sean Moore
Operations Clerk, Operations Unit, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering


Sean assumed the position of Operations Clerk with the Operations Unit of the Faculty in January 2008. He is responsible for mail delivery and assisting with other operational duties, including copy machine maintenance, assisting with office moves and much more. Prior to joining the Faculty, Sean worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Public Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine.


JhoJho Nazal
Graduate Assistant , Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

Before joining the Faculty, Jho worked as a Program Assistant for over seven years in the Additional Qualifications Unit at OISE Continuing Education Department. Jho assumed the position of Graduate Assistant for the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in December 2007.


Jennifer Neill
Administrative Assistant, Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering Jennifer

Jennifer assumed the position of Administrative Assistant to Peter Zandstra and Derek van der Koov in September 2007. In addition to providing administrative support to Peter and Derek, she works on grant applications, making travel arrangements, organizing lab events and general office duties. Before joining IBBME, Jennifer was the secretary for the Department of English.
