Professor Aaron Wheeler Receives Sloan Fellowship | |
Professor Aaron Wheeler (cross-appointed to the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry and the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering) has been awarded a 2009 Sloan Research Fellowship from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The fellowships recognize the best young researchers at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada in Physics, Chemistry, Computational and Evolutionary Molecular Biology, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics and Neuroscience. Sloan Research Fellows receive grants of $50,000 and are free to pursue whatever lines of inquiry are of most interest to them. Professor Wheeler is a Canada Research Chair in Bioanalytical Chemistry and a recipient of the Canadian Society of Chemistry’s Fred Beamish Award in Analytical Chemistry. While completing his PhD at Stanford, Professor Wheeler developed the first microchannel-based single-cell analysis platform. A paper in Analytical Chemistry describing this work has become canonical in the field, having been cited nearly 100 times since being published in 2003. He is a Fellow of the American Chemical Society and the National Institutes of Health. |
