Leading Through Problem-SolvingIt is not surprising that we find so many leaders within U of T Engineering. The nature of our profession increasingly requires engineers to undertake leadership roles and Skule™ graduates depart our Faculty ready for that challenge. For some, it’s because of their participation in the Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) Program, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. The success of LOT has not only inspired many students (and some alumni), but also led to the establishment of The Institute for Leadership Education in Engineering (ILead). They will be hosting "Celebrate Your Leadership Story" on the afternoon of June 2, as part of our Spring Reunion festivities. Leadership is also developed through involvement in Skule™ Life, witnessed by those students who were presented last month with the Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Awards, not to mention through tackling design challenges in courses like Engineering Science’s Praxis. It is also demonstrated through research initiatives, like U of T’s exciting participation in the New York-based Center for Urban Science and Progress or by alumni like Dr. Donald Sadoway (EngSci 7T2, MSE MASc 7T3, PhD 7T7), who was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World. These are just a few of the tremendous examples of leadership that abound at U of T Engineering. You will have an opportunity to discover more by participating in Spring Reunion from May 30 to June 2. I would also encourage you to save Saturday, September 15 in your calendar. We are planning an exciting day that will provide our alumni with a chance to learn more about the boundless innovation conducted within U of T Engineering, and to share some exciting announcements. We look forward to providing more information in the near future. Thank you for your continued interest in Skule™. Best regards Yu-Ling Cheng |
