Boundless PossibilitiesNext month is National Engineering Month: an opportunity to celebrate our profession. It is also an occasion to recall how the profession has evolved. At every step of that evolution, in every field of engineering, our faculty, students and alumni have been in the vanguard, driving innovation. This issue gives a glimpse of the new frontiers our engineers are imaging—and realizing—in human health. This progress is a testament to our Boundless commitment to preparing global leaders who will address the challenges of the 21st century. At U of T Engineering, we are advancing regenerative medicine research, designing neuroprostheses for retraining brain functions following strokes and lab-on-a-chip HIV monitoring devices. Our faculty and students collaborate with hospitals to improve health care; pioneering medical solutions such as breakthrough facial reconstruction treatments for patients suffering fractures. As you read through some of these research discoveries, please remember that our progress is due in great measure to your generous financial support. I am pleased to share these examples of our accomplishments and am deeply grateful for your continued involvement in your alma mater. Best regards Cristina Amon |
