Skule™ BeginningsThe 2011 academic year welcomes 1,354 new undergraduate and over 650 graduate faces to U of T Engineering. Determined to acquire the finest engineering education in Canada, our newest cohort comes prepared to face a challenging year ahead of them. Our returning students now have the opportunity to take advantage of new minors and programs offered this year and gain useful insight and experience from a number of new research initiatives. The start of the year is always a celebration here on campus and an exciting time to witness the spirit of Skule™. This year’s Frosh Week events kicked off with the annual matriculation ceremony followed by Frosh Olympics, a hypnosis show and a night under the stars. The Faculty had an eventful summer: our Outreach Office, volunteers and faculty members supervised 900 high school students from around the world for the annual DEEP Program; 10 engineering alumni and faculty were inducted to the Canadian Academy of Engineering based on their exceptional work and accomplishments; and our Calgary Alumni Chapter bid welcome to the newest batch of students to Skule™. With plans underway for the 2011 academic year, I am delighted to inform you we have scheduled events in Asia and San Francisco to once again connect with our international alumni. It is always a pleasure meeting our global partners and friends and I look forward to building stronger relationships with them. I encourage alumni to visit Skule™ this year, participate in various events and learn about the latest developments on campus. Your involvement helps shape a community of engineering professionals for decades to come. Thank you for setting an excellent example for our newest students. I am certain they will approach their academics with passion, imagination, curiosity, and be responsible engineerings and lifelong learners. Best regards Cristina Amon |
