Diversity at Skule™The world lives at U of T Engineering. As one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2010, we pride ourselves on our diverse community of people. As an internationally renowned Faculty, we foster a multi-faceted environment by attracting staff, students and faculty members from various backgrounds. We are advancing recruitment of foreign students, encouraging higher female undergraduate enrolment, and enhancing our students’ experiences. An academic and culturally diverse climate enriches our students’ learning experience by inspiring creative intellectual thinking in and beyond their classroom. Interactions among faculty and students from different nationalities result in an exchange of innovative ideas, perspectives and solutions. In this issue, I invite you to learn how your alma mater critically reflects on our measurables and successes in our Annual Report. Also, meet students who exemplify the spirit of promoting diversity, and read about leading women engineers in their fields, like Laura Logan (IndE 8T6) who manages airline security at Air Canada, Bombardier analyst Sarah Oliveira (ElecE 0T5) and Audrey Mascarenhas (ChemE 8T2) whose passion for the environment propelled her at the top of an international oil field company. I am also pleased to announce the appointment of Grant Allen who will take on the role of Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry and thank Doug Reeve for his exemplary leadership. In an increasingly fast-paced and interconnected world, I am confident that our future graduates will, like you, excel in their respective vocations. Their diverse backgrounds and education will no doubt bring about tomorrow’s innovation and new technologies. Thank you, for your contributions to our global culture and dedication to your alma mater. Cristina Amon |
