A Message from Dean Cristina AmonAt U of T Engineering, we encourage and nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs. This issue of the Engineering Newsletter examines how we support these innovators through strategic initiatives that develop competencies and provide opportunities for entrepreneurial endeavours. Within the last decade, the Faculty introduced the engineering Entrepreneurship Seminar Series as well as courses that lead to the undergraduate certificate in Entrepreneurship. We strengthened these initiatives by the creation of the graduate certificate in Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Innovation and Technology in Engineering (ELITE), the undergraduate Engineering Business Minor, and the Institute for Leadership Education in Engineering (ILead). More recently, we launched the Entrepreneurship Hatchery, which provides students with experiential learning to transform ideas into prototypes and these prototypes, along with business plans, into start-up ventures. To further embed a culture of entrepreneurism, we established the Heffernan Commercialization Fellowships for graduate students to commercialize research outcomes and spark new technology companies. Our Faculty’s next major initiative is the forthcoming Centre for Engineering Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CEIE), designed to stimulate collaborations amongst our student and research communities. The CEIE will become a vibrant hub for faculty, students, alumni and industry partners to come together, create the next engineering innovations, strengthen entrepreneurial activities and enhance collaborative learning. Thank you for your inspiring commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration across U of T Engineering and beyond. Your contributions are enabling the transformative research and ideas that will impact our future. |
