A Message from Acting Dean Yu-Ling ChengAs we mark the significant milestone of 10 years of leadership education at U of T Engineering, we are reminded that leadership takes a variety of forms and originates in many different places. As a Faculty, we are proud of our students, staff and faculty who demonstrate leadership and cultivate excellence in a myriad of ways. In recent weeks, we had the opportunity to celebrate the diverse members of our community who have contributed to our excellence. Professor Jim Wallace (MIE), was honoured with the University's President's Teaching Award, an impressive accolade and a testament to his – and our – commitment to the highest quality of education. Our tremendous student leaders were also recognized this month, with Cressy Awards and awards from the Engineering Society. Our innovators in the classrooms, labs and administrative offices were also celebrated for driving our academic mission forward at our annual Celebrating Engineering Excellence reception. The announcement this month of the Faculty's two newest NSERC Chairs will only further our reach, impact and leadership. Professors Kamran Behdinan and Vaughn Betz were named respectively as the NSERC Chair in Multidisciplinary Engineering Design and the NSERC-Altera Industrial Research Chair in Programmable Silicon. We take great pride in this recognition of their work. As we continue to pursue the key priorities outlined in our Academic Plan, we are confident in that the high quality of our engineering community will ensure we achieve our aims. |
