A Message from Dean Cristina AmonIn this issue of The Engineering Newsletter, we highlight the importance of thinking and acting globally in an ever-increasingly interconnected world. The international initiatives we have established, and those in the works, develop student experience beyond the classroom, and build international collaborations beyond research lab walls. Read about how the Engineering Faculty is enhancing the global perspective through a number of global initiatives. May has been an exciting time, as we proudly hosted two very successful and significant events – the Centre for Sustainable Energy Showcase and the Educational Technology Workshop. I am delighted to announce that Professor Mark Kortschot (ChemE) has been appointed the next Chair of Engineering Science, while three of our alumni will receive honorary degrees at this year's convocation for their extraordinary achievements. Recently, a group of outstanding U of T Engineering undergraduate students won five trophies at the Indianapolis Speedway and two of our graduate students were awarded with the prestigious Trans-Canada (McKee) Trophy. This month also saw Professor Emeritus Frank Hooper (MIE) honoured for his pioneering research, and Chemical Engineering recognized with two international communication awards. |
